Our plot on the former North Freight Yard in Freiburg encompasses around 390,000 square meters. In close collaboration with the city, we have developed an urban planning concept that creates a district for business and science, offices and services, hotels and gastronomy, as well as for residential use, leisure, and culture.
Aurelis also coordinated and implemented a stable traffic development system: we’ve expanded Güterhallenstrasse and Zollhallenstrasse, connected them with a transversal road, and attached it to the public road network. We acquired additional space from Deutsche Bahn AG to install park and green areas as a demarcation to the railway lines. Furthermore, we also created a plaza of 6,000 square meters, forming the entrance to the quarter.
The mixture of historic buildings and modern architecture, coupled with green corridors, endows the area with a particular charm. Nearly all the land plots have already been sold. They’ve been used, for example, for the construction of a students' residence and a residential and business building containing a printing company. Already under construction or being planned are: further residential and business buildings, two hotels, a second students' residence, a residential and nursing home for senior citizens, a facility for assisted living, and two daycare centers. In addition, several craft and commercial businesses are being created.
The project should be fully completed by 2022.
