The Regional Office for Nature, the Environment and Consumer Protection (LANUV) was looking for a new location for its Düsseldorf-based staff. District 1 of Duisburger Freiheit, between the railway building and Koloniestrasse, was examined as part of a feasibility study. Aurelis developed the blueprint for an office and laboratory building on its own land plot, thereby fulfilling all of LANUV's space requirements. The central location directly at Düsseldorf's main railway station also suited LANUV, and we consequently concluded the rental contract for around 16,500 square meters of rental space.
Our plans comprise three buildings: an office building and a laboratory building connected via a glass bridge, and a parking garage in which LANUV rents 150 spaces. Construction work started at the end of 2016.
We developed a comprehensive energy concept for the property: the building shell of the new office building is to be 50 percent below the maximum level set by the German Energy-Saving Directive. For the laboratory building, it is 30 percent less, thereby saving CO2. LANUV also produces its own solar electricity and obtains district heating from Duisburg's municipal utilities.
LANUV is set to start operations in District 1 of Duisburger Freiheit by the end of 2018, when 400 employees will move from the former Düsseldorf site to Duisburg.
The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) awarded the building its gold sustainability certificate.
