The 360,000-square-meter area on the former freight yard of Düsseldorf’s Derendorf district is one of the largest inner-city development projects in North Rhine-Westphalia. There Aurelis has created the preconditions for an attractive, mixed-use quarter close to downtown Düsseldorf.
Within Le Quartier Central, around 75,000 square meters of space are green and open areas. We connected the surrounding city areas by developing the new quarter. The entire district enjoys great transportation connections: three rapid transit stations as well as a network of pedestrian and cycling paths ensure the city center can be reached in just a few minutes.
The fact that this district is based on a sound concept is also evident in the speed of sales: 85 percent of the land plots had already been sold around one year after groundbreaking. Some project developers even invested in the location several times. On the last free building plot, Aurelis is erecting the La Tête office building for the Handelsblatt publishing group. At the end of 2017, the tenant will move into the property, which we had sold to an institutional investor before construction commenced.
In 2011, Le Quartier Central was one of the first city districts to be awarded the gold sustainability certificate by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
