Due to the advancing utilization of electronic components in passenger trains, the Central Electronics Workshop (EZW) required a space extension in the former Neuaubing repair center. We prepared a new building concept for the Triebwerk plot for the user DB Fahrzeuginstandhaltung GmbH, a maintenance subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn. This meant that EZW was able to remain in its existing location.
The four-story property known as Technologiewerk was created on a 10,000-square-meter plot and comprises 9,500 square meters of floor space for offices and workshops. A technology room has been housed in the basement. A separate hall with ground floor and gallery, directly connected to the main building, supplements the new building and serves as storage space. The majority of the space is rented to Fahrzeuginstandhaltung GmbH: around 150 highly specialized experts maintain electronic components here for Deutsche Bahn as well as for international rail companies. DB Fahrwegdienste has a presence of around 40 employees on a further 850 square meters.
Technologiewerk is equipped with energy-efficient systems. Its modern building technology features heat recovery, for example, through which heat emissions from working processes can be fed directly into the heating system.
The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) awarded the building its gold sustainability certificate.
