The heritage-protected building complex Alter Zollhof with 8,300 square meters of rental space is located on the land of the former North Freight Yard in Freiburg. It consists of a front-end building that served administrative and customs processing purposes previously, and two industrial halls. Our refurbishment concept involved maintaining the charm of the former customs office (in German Gründerzeit style) and the halls' historical industrial-era architecture, and making the buildings usable again.
The main building was restored in compliance with heritage-protection regulations. As a result, modern office premises were created. Both of the side-adjoining freight halls were left in their original dimensions, and also renovated in line with heritage-protection regulations. We achieved optimal space apportionment for our tenants through additional installations. We also built an underground car park with more than 100 car parking spaces, through excavation and creating new accesses.
We quickly rented the main building and the halls thanks to the individual space structuring that had been possible. Today, the building complex reflects a lively modern utilisation mix consisting of offices and retailing, as well as sports and leisure offerings. In the meantime, the property has been sold.
